In the first corner (timeout) weighing in at maybe 40 pounds fully clothed soaking wet….Nutty!  All of our kids earned their nickname, Nutty got his because he is always being goofy trying to get a laugh.  At some point in his life he heard the phrase “Crazy Nut Boy” and so that is what we called him for a while.  Then it eventually got shortened to just “Nutty”.

Nutty is getting ready to start kindergarten after two years of preschool.  We decided to hold him back a year after seeing him in preschool among the other kids.  As of now we think he might finally be 40 pounds, but haven’t weighed him lately.  He was usually quite a bit shorter than the other kids so we figured an extra year of preschool wouldn’t be bad, and just maybe, he wouldn’t be the smallest in his class.

Nutty has many favorite pastimes including: Lego’s, learning to read, Xbox 360, and the world wide web.  This kid loves his Legos.  He has quite a few sets right now, but enjoys building things of his own.  Unfortunately, this is usually after Sister has dismantled the sets Daddy spent a while building.  The good part of this is that we see just how creative he really is since he has no interest in coloring.  His idea of coloring was grabbing a crayon and scribbling a few lines then calling it good.

Nutty is learning to read.  He is very excited about the prospect of reading his own stories, at times.  We read stories to the kids every night, and lately Nutty has chosen stories that he would like to read himself.  So ambitious, yet so impatient.  He doesn’t like not knowing a word, and sometimes that will end him reading as he gets “too tired to read anymore.”  Hopefully he will grow to love reading as much as Mama does.

Xbox 360/Sony PSP.  He loves video games.  Not sure where he gets it from…OK, I guess I’m a slight closet gamer.  He gets a little time every other day to play on his own profile on my Xbox 360.  He also has his own collection of games: Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Batman and Lego Bionicles.  Told you he loved his Legos.  He saw me play Halo a few times, but that ended one day when I dropped him off at preschool.  At the time he was 4 years old and he ran up to a friend about his same size (they are both small skinny kids).  Nutty informed him that they were going to grab the helmets from the dress up box (believe they were supposed to be Police helmets) and they were going to play Halo.  He then had to explain how to play Halo; “We have to jump around and shoot the bad guys.”  Yeah, I don’t play that while the kids are awake anymore.

You can find both kids perusing the World Wide Web in morning.  They have their own desktop computer with links to parent approved websites like: Disney.com, Lego.com, HotWheels.com, etc.  Nutty loves to explore and makes sure to point out new playsets (or toys) to “add to [his] birthday list.”  Simple times.  He can’t read so sometimes the toys get their own “custom” names from him.  Makes finding them at birthday/Christmas time that much more fun.

All in all he is your typical 6 year old big brother.  He adores his little sister and his little brother; and he knows it is his job as a big brother to make sure they are both safe and happy.  We may tease him (OK, me) about selling him to the circus, but we wouldn’t know what to do without our little man in the house.
