Yeah, been a long time.  There is a bunch of things going on, but I don’t feel compelled to put them up here.  Don’t know why.

Aiden graduated from Kindergarten a couple weeks ago.  That means next year we will have an “all day schooler”!  He turned 7 just a few weeks ago as well.  Where does that time go????

Paige finished round one of preschool, and gets the same teacher next year.  We are very excited because we all really like Mrs. M.  She does a great job with the kids, and the kids all love her.  Even Finn!

Mr. Finn is a walker now.  He doesn’t crawl at all anymore.  He’s also transitioned to the one nap a day routine.  Rough some days, but he does well overall.  Thankfully, he is sleeping through the nights.

Kim has been going through the process of becoming a surrogate.  That has been temporarily put on hold.  Couple more trips to the doctor, and a couple of procedures so far.  We’re waiting to see what happens, and hopefully her dream of being a gestational carrier will become reality.  I’d still like to beat the high holy hell out of the bastard that screwed up her surgery last summer.  This has been going on for almost a year now.

Me?  Well, I’m working now.  Got a job about a month ago now, and just finished week one on my own.  Not that it matters since my trainer didn’t do much training anyway.  I worked a full day today for the first time in years.  I’m beat!  Oh, and part of my job includes using a tablet PC, so I’ve got a new toy….a new toy that I can’t mess with.  Dang!

1-22-2010

It has been a great long while.  I know…I’m a slacker.  I’m not sure what changed, but it seems like I can’t retain the things I want to blog about.  But there are a few things that have started happening….

Biggest news: Finn is mobile.  He started “crawling” a full 2 months earlier than either of the other two.  The reason it is in quotations is because he isn’t actually crawling.  Instead of being on all fours, Finn has opted to basically do the splits and pull himself around.  I can only imagine that the legs are being utilized as stabilizers so that he doesn’t fall forward or backwards while moving.  I also believe he is doing it this way (and the others didn’t) because of the hardwood floors.  Aiden always had to deal with mostly carpet on the main floor, and Paige started the standing/walking literally when we got the hardwoods installed.  We have a great picture of her standing in the emptied out living room just prior to leaving the house for a few days to have the floors installed…she is very unsure of her balance.  Anyway, Finn is now also pulling himself up on things and cruising around the coffee table.  We’ve rearranged the living room to maximize play space for the kids, and give Finn the most available space to roam.   However, you can usually find him: playing with the DirecTV receiver, playing with either Kim’s purse or his diaper bag in the dining room, or making a dash for my office door (if its open) so that he can get under my desk and play with the powerstrip….since it has the pretty red power light.  Touch on this in a minute.

Next big news?  Aiden is reading up a storm.  He started just a little while ago, but he is the one reading bedtime stories for the most part.  Tonight was the first night he had me read a book in a while.  He wasn’t comfortable reading a big book (although I know he could have read it easily), but filled in things and corrected me a couple times.  So I like to ad-lib occasionally… whoopee.  He is still doing well in school, and we should be getting his next report card on Monday.

Paige is baffling.  How we ended up with a girly-girl is beyond me.  She is in love with being a princess, and big poofy party dresses.  She now has 2, with Mama fixing up another one for her.  She requests to wear them almost daily.  She loves having “pretties” in her hair to go with the dresses too.  She is going to be trouble….I just know it…..

I had a pretty big day last week.  For the first time since before I graduated, I had a job interview.  This meant getting a haircut and shaving my face.  I had cut my hair and shaved my face for the wedding I performed back in late August.  It was untouched since then.  Yes, it was long.  So, I was able to talk Paige into going with me and getting a little trim, and ONLY a little trim.  She was having NO part in a drastic haircut.  She informed me on the way to the salon (yes, I went to a salon) that she has to have long hair so that others “would know she’s a girl!”  We then had the discussion that sometimes boys have long hair, too.  Then I started on the earrings.  I have six, and I wanted to make sure she knew that boys can have those too.  She was a little disappointed that Daddy and Mama both have six holes, and she only has two.  I told her when she was older she could get more holes in her ear.

Back to the job interview.  It was an entry level position with a market research company here.  One of two market research companies here.  These jobs do not open up often, and they are pretty competitive.  How competitive?  I was one of 121 (yes, one hundred and twenty one) applicants.  From that, 46 were instantly rejected due to lack of cover letter or typos in their resume.  So, that 75 of us.  From that group of 75 there about 10 chosen for interviews.  Yes, I was one of about ten to get an interview.  I’ll say it now, I don’t interview well.  I’ve been told by previous bosses and employers that I could sell ice to an Eskimo in the middle of winter.  Again, I admit, I can sell things….but I despise having to sell myself.  That may be part of the problem.  In any case, I’m still a stay at home Daddy.  I’m sad that I didn’t get the job, but thrilled I still get to be home with my kids.  I’d still love to find a way to stay at home AND earn an income.  For the record, I have started writing one book, and have ideas for a few children’s books.  Here’s hoping.

Next up, Kim.  You may recall that Kim had a less than stellar surgical procedure done last summer.  She is still getting bloodwork drawn for tests regularly, and things still aren’t back to normal.  However, she has been cleared for another pregnancy.  No, not for us.  I can’t do that.  When the doctor cleared her on Tuesday, he made the comment about how “one of us was planning on another one” since I had made contradicting statements.  Thankfully, Kim replied with “It wouldn’t be ours”.  Honey, thank you again for not saying “It won’t be his”.  I can only imagine the confusion for the doctor had THAT come out.  Yes, Kim may get to fulfill her desire to surrogate.  She may only get to surrogate once, if at all.  Yes, I am okay with this for a few reasons.  1) She is a happy pregnant woman.  She LOVES being pregnant and doesn’t get mean.  2) It is her body.  I have no right to tell her what she can and cannot do with her body.  I can voice my opinion, and let her know if I’m uncomfortable with something, but I refuse to be the bastard that tries to tell her outright that she cannot do anything.  3) Holy crap!  They pay you HOW MUCH???? 4) There will be no midnight feedings.  I love all three of my kids, but I do NOT miss getting up multiple times a night to feed them.  In fact, I am very much looking forward to not having diapers to change anymore either.

So there you have it.  I think I’ve caught you up to speed, but I know I’ve missed things in there.  Like I just remembered that Aiden has substituted Spanish words in for the English equivalent while reading (thankfully he lets me know that “its the Spanish word for [...]”

Oh yeah, was going to touch on Finn and the powerstrip again.  In my last blog in November I posted something about my router needing to be reset every couple days, and that D-Link needed to update it NOW!  Well, they haven’t officially done that yet.  I did find a beta of their updated firmware and installed it.  Since I installed it (about a month ago) it has never needed to be reset.  Thankfully, it is stable and performing pretty well (only a small reduction in my Wi-Fi reception area???).  I am happy.  One day, Finn decided it needed a reboot.  He scooted in here while I was working on something, and flipped the powerstrip’s “Master Power” switch.  Hmmmm…yeah, I guess that almost two weeks had gone by without a reboot.  Okay.  It has continued to work perfectly…..

Pure chaos!!!

There are seven children in our house under the age of six.  Yes, that’s right SEVEN kids all aged six years old or younger!  Thankfully, with four adults it is still under the 2-1 ratio….barely.  This weekend brought a treat for our family.  We had family come to visit!  My little sister Kelsey brought her four kids (in her defense, she had twins) and our Mother out for a weekend visit.  Aiden and Paige were so excited that they stayed up on Thursday night until they arrived.  By the time the dust settled the kids didn’t get to bed until about midnight.  WAAAAAAAAAAAY past their bedtime.  We usually have them in bed by 8 PM.  Kim went nuts because of this.  The routine of picking up toys and relaxing in quiet were thwarted by the pending arrival of family.  You can read her blog HERE.  Always fun to see things from her perspective.

The kids have been having a great time playing with their cousins.  Aiden’s best bud is Brogan.  They are about a year apart in age, but you’d never know it.  One of the best things happened tonight.  We had Aiden walking around singing in Spanish and Brogan was walking with him singing in Chinese.  Brogan is in a Kindergarten class that is a Chinese version of Aiden’s.  Good times.  Paige has been having fun playing with the twins Elle and Asher.  They are a bit younger than her, but just a little bit.  Thankfully, we didn’t have a repeat of the last time we stayed at their house.  The sight of Elle with her hands around Paige’s throat because they’d seen enough of each other was scary, and definitely enough for one lifetime.  They are getting along great this time around.  It is also fun to see Finn and Everett interact.  There is only a couple weeks difference in age, but there is a big difference in size.  Pun intended.  Everett is long, but feels like a feather compared to our Tank.  Let’s just say that Everett probably won’t be a football training partner for Finn…just like Aiden won’t be.

Gram is just hanging out, reading, relaxing, and cleaning.  For Mom the “cleaning” falls under “relaxing” I guess.  Kelsey is trying to play ringleader, and I’ve been consumed in my office more than normal this weekend.  Thanks to the generosity of Puma, I spent a majority of Friday afternoon installing Windows 7 Pro on my laptop.  I bought it with XP Pro, then went to Vista Business, and now I”m on the newly released Windows 7 Pro.  Yes, I know I said that already, but it is new and I’m still a bit excited.  So far it is similar to Vista, but there are little things that I’m still playing with and learning.

I’m still waiting on the Yankees to finish on the series with the Angels.  Seriously…any time now Yankees.  Girardi.  Yes, I know I have no experience playing in the majors, or managing a major league baseball team (let alone the New York Yankees), but come on.  The way you go through your bullpen is crazy.  Using Joba Chamberlain as a set-up man for your set-up man?  Here’s a thought…you could save him in case the game goes into extra innings (like they all seem to in this series, Game 5 was fun though).  That way we don’t end up with a guy pitching that has LIMITED experience in the majors, let alone the ALCS.  Tonight’s game was rained out.  I’ve already set the DVR to record tomorrow with a three hour extension.  Finish it off so there is a little break between the ALCS and the World Series.  I beg of you!  We NEED another championship!

Off the soapbox now.

And so Fall 2009 soccer season ends

Today was the last game for Aiden and Paige for the Fall.  We were a little sad, but also relieved.  Paige was finally enjoying and understanding what she needed to be doing during her games.  She is the only one that consistently runs and wants to play on her team.  Well, I guess there is that other kid, but he wants to kick the ball in a straight line regardless of the direction he is facing.  I’m frustrated at the team she is on because the coaches don’t take it seriously, the parents of the other kids don’t seem to take it seriously, and all in all has been frustrating for us.  She is enjoying herself, and that’s all that matters.

Today was cold.  Quite cold.  Aiden’s game was first, and just like the first three of the season, we ended up playing most of the game 4 vs 5.  I think the other team scored A goal.  Yeah, one.  When they had an extra man for 3/4 of the game.  In the opening couple of minutes our team was up 3-0.  Well, Braden was up 3-0 on the other team.  He is the smallest one on the team (yes, he’s smaller than Aiden) and man can that kid get up the field in a hurry!  When Aiden got into the game we were all a bit disappointed to see him playing back on defense.  He and Austin both played defense most of the time, and they were BORED.  The ball almost never went into our backfield.  There is video of Aiden dancing in the goalie area because he was trying to keep himself entertained.  Partway through the third quarter when Aiden had just sat down, Kelsey said something about how they wanted to see him play, not just dance.  We just happened to be sitting next to the coaches wife who made a quick trip to the other side to talk with Coach Bo.  Thirty seconds later, Aiden was in on offense.  Once I retied the drawstring on his shorts (he was running around the field with one hand holding up his shorts) he was good to go.  He scored a goal, and was charging after the ball until he got tired.  Then he started half-ass running around the field.  I think we will work on conditioning over the winter and in the spring.

Paige was up next.  Like I said, it was cold.  We had all the other kids in our van watching a movie and the grown-ups were taking shifts sitting on the sidelines cheering on Paige.  There was one kid on the other team that was GOOD.  Granted there was only 2 kids from the other team, I think he scored all the goals for the other team.  Our team had one goal.  Guess who scored that….yup, that’s my girl!  Paige was slow going early on, but picked up the pace into the second half.  Proud of her, obviously, and look forward to the spring.  Hopefully we will get a couple more kids on the team that like to play as much as Paige.

We are sad that the season is over, but like Kim said, we WON’T miss the games in 40-50 degree weather….plus wind….

10-19-2009

Wow. Tomorrow will be eight years. She has put up with me for almost 12 years, but we’ve been married for 8. Scary.

Well the toothless grins will be leaving our house soon…never to return. Ok, so they will once the kids have kids and if Kim or I lose all our teeth. I love when Finn throws that huge smile out. Ear to ear, all gums, and if you’re lucky he’ll stick the tip of his tongue out there too. Gonna miss that. Finn is still growing by leaps and bounds. Cracks me up, but he is a tummy sleeper. Aiden is the only one that seems to sleep on his back the majority of time.

Paige is finding out just how much she really likes soccer. Two kids have been pulled off the team (WOO HOO!!!) so she is getting to play a bunch. This last week I think she was the only one that was ready to run out on the field at any given point. She scored her team’s only goal in the game. She is learning and loving it. Think it’s time to order those black and pink soccer cleats.

Paige is loving school still. She’s always excited to tell us about her day, especially what she had for snack. She is currently practicing her somersaults.

So game time was looking grim for Aiden on Saturday.  Kim was over watching Paige’s game so I walked Aiden over to his field.  When we got there, like normal, there was only a couple of kids from the team there early warming up.  The other team had all of their players there, and they looked like a good team.  I wish I could say I knew what happened in the first quarter, but I went back to Paige’s game (since I missed last week’s) and Kim went over to Aiden’s (since she missed his last week).  All I know for certain is that Aiden’s team (the Black Cobra’s) scored four times while I was watching and the other team only got one goal in that same time period.  I’m fairly confident we won, but sometimes our boys need a little time to warm up and have gotten behind early in the game the last couple times.  Aiden didn’t score this week, but he was still fearless while playing.  At one point he had the entire other team surround him while he booted the ball out.  We are going to try on some new cleats tonight since he is getting close to growing out of these.  We’ve already got a pair picked out (bright ass orange…his favorite color) but we need to know what size to order.

Aiden is learning a little Spanish every day. He is making friends and loving school.  Cracks me up that he spends most of his playground time before school playing with a group of girls.  He is the only boy in the group.  This could be interesting as he gets older.

Kim is still blogging more often than I am, but I’m waiting for the novelty to wear off.  I think we should probably set a designated time for us to both sit down and blog.  We’ll see what happens.  You can also read hers for the going on’s around here (Link) from another perspective.

10-12-09

So, I haven’t been diligent in updating this blog.  Kim flips me crap about it…so much so that she’s decided to start her own blog.  Ok, so it probably isn’t entirely because of my “lack of updates”, but I’m sure it doesn’t help.  You can find hers over at: nuttymonkeymama.blogspot.com Yes, she decided to follow others into the “easy” way of blogging.  Not that this way was difficult, but again, she is showing her independence from me.  She even stated in her first blog that she didn’t want me to do anything with her blog unless she absolutely needed it.  I’m not going to argue.  I’m excited that people will be able to see things from both of our perspectives.  Of course, there could be some slight downsides to this too.  Perhaps I should start cleaning more?

So much has happened since I last did a decent update.  Kids soccer games, changing of home services, Finn’s everything.  Let’s start as far back as I can remember….well, important things anyway.

Paige is taking to soccer much in the same way Aiden did.  Little slow to figure it out, then WOO HOO.  Three weeks ago (so September 26th) she was learning what she needed to do.  No fits were thrown, but she wasn’t really running after the ball all that much.  Two weeks ago it was cold.  So cold that I was snuggling Aiden under the quilt we keep in the back of the van.  Paige was wearing something like 3 layers and running.  She scored 3 goals (although one was technically just after the halftime whistle) and was SO excited.  She was catching on.  This past week was another 4 goals.  Again, one technically doesn’t count because the ball apparently went out of bounds and she just rolled it back in and kept going.  So she plays by her own rules…big deal.  She’s having fun and it isn’t looking like a complete waste of money.

Aiden’s team has pretty much dominated this season.  The first two games all included a period of time (usually at least half the game) where the other team gets to use an extra player.  Last week was a little funny.  All this year it is supposed to be 4 vs 4, but last week we were short players.  We started out with 5 players, but 2 left at halftime.  I’ll get on my soapbox about that in a minute, but we played the last half of the game 3 vs 3 with no subs for our team.  Aiden scored 3 times, and the other two kids that stuck around also scored once each.  It was a nice change to see kids that don’t normally score often boot that ball in the goal.  At one point there was one kid on our team that had to use the bathroom so it became 2 vs 2.  Good times.  This last week we suffered our first loss….technically.  I don’t see it as a loss considering the fact that there was a dirty player on the other team and the ref wasn’t calling anything.  All in all this kid (#22) shoved Aiden down at least 3 times that I saw, and tripped him twice….one trip ended up with Aiden bracing his fall and really hurting his hand.  Now, granted, he is a crier, but not usually in soccer.  He is very good about hopping back up and shaking it off.  This other kid tripped or shoved people on our team constantly and the side refs kept signaling there was a foul, but all the on field ref did was shrug and mouth “I didn’t see it”.  Well no shit.  The whole point of the side refs is to help the on-field with things she might not see.  We lost by 2 goals, we had 5 out of 8 players, and the dirty kid was allowed to get away with everything.  I did have a conversation with Aiden about when it may be appropriate to push and whatnot in a game, but I also need to try to teach him how to do it without getting caught.  Is that bad?

Ok, the soapbox.  Two kids left Aiden’s soccer game at halftime a couple weeks ago.  One of them had to leave so that he wouldn’t miss his football game.  WTF?  Seriously?  Why would you sign up a kid for two sports in the same season that will have overlapping game times?  Pick one and stick with it.  Maybe he should just play football so that we can get a kid that wants to be at the whole soccer game and help his team?  Especially when we’re already short  people!

Then there is Paige’s team.  There are two kids that don’t seem to want to play….ever.  One kid even had his grandma on the field holding his hand a couple weeks ago.  Then she drug him up and down the field.  WTF is the point in that?  He doesn’t want to be there, he doesn’t want to play, and no matter how much you mimic a foosball player, HE ISN”T PLAYING!!!!  There are kids that enjoy playing and have to sit on the sidelines while we watch this bullshit happen week after week.  Yank him.  Don’t bother bringing him.  Spend the money and buy him a couple new DVDs.  Then he can enjoy them while just sitting motionless, and you won’t have to pretend he’s playing and repeatedly comment to other parents that “he’s not normally like this”.  Bullshit.  He’s been like that since the first practice, and it is NOT going to change.

Invisible pee, pee on the floor, and Christmas is coming

What a strange week.  Paige has been potty trained for quite a while now, and it has been pretty easy going.  Lately, though, we’ve noticed something.  Paige won’t wipe if the toilet paper isn’t on the roll.  By “on the roll” I mean on the springy roll on the wall…I’m sure there’s a technical name for it, but I don’t really care.  So, the other day while I was in my office, Paige went in and went to the bathroom.  When she came out Kim asked if she had wiped.  Paige informed Kim that she had not.  Naturally, you ask, “Why not?”  Paige’s response?  ”I didn’t wipe cause the pee is invisible.”  Kim relayed this to me and we both laughed.  Later that evening Paige and I had pretty much the same conversation.  I took the time to educate Paige that even though it is invisible she still needs to wipe.  And of course her natural response, “Why?”  Sad part, I couldn’t come up with an answer.  It isn’t my fault…..really!  When you get caught off guard by a toddler with a random question let’s see how you do…mmmmmmmmmmkay?

Yesterday.  Yesterday was going to be a challenge.  I got to bed late (around 0200) and Kim was working on Friday night.  I was going to have to get up with the kids in the morning, and try to be out of bed when Kim got home from work.  See, yesterday was Soccer Game day.  Kim was going to miss Paige’s game at 1230 and catch Aiden’s at 1500.  This was going to cut her sleep short in between two work days so being able to come home and go straight to bed would be VERY beneficial.  Any extra sleep possible is good with kids anyway.  Well Kim got home and Paige and I were passed out in bed (she joined me around 5 minutes after I went to bed) and Finn was still sleeping.  Not sure about Aiden since he wasn’t in the room with us.  Well, now how would Finn still be asleep that late?  Easy.  He had been awake (with me) for a good portion of the night.  I think I got around 3-4 hours of sleep Friday night.  Imagine my delight when I came downstairs to find one of the cats had peed on the floor in the living room the night before.  Whichever one it was appeared to be aiming for a Care Bear that was left on the floor, but they missed.  So I spent the next 10 minutes cleaning it up, then another 15-20 going over the area multiple times with a sanitizing wipe.  Thankfully it happened on the hardwood floors, not on the area rug.  Later that day after the soccer games were over (I’ll post another with recaps of both kids’ last two games) the kids were relaxing with a little Phineas and Ferb.  We love that show.  Out of the corner of my eye I see Paige running to the downstairs bathroom with a towel.  She’s not wearing pants.  This is not going to be good.  Sure enough, she was so into the show that she wasn’t paying attention to nature.  She made it into the bathroom but couldn’t get on the potty in time.  Soccer shorts (she demanded to continue wearing them after her game) and undies were soaked and lovingly placed in the laundry basket.  Step one: spend another 30 minutes cleaning up pee on the floor and sanitizing wipes.  Then I went to the laundry basket.  I appreciate Paige putting her urine soaked clothes in there….except it was clean clothes I had just pulled out of the dryer 10 minutes prior and had yet to fold.  Thank goodness for the sanitizing cycle on the washing machine.

Christmas is coming.  Aiden reminded me of this today.  We were sitting at the table eating lunch (Finn ate nearly his own body weight I swear!) and Aiden looked at me and said;

Aiden: “Dad, do you know what you want for Christmas?”
Me: “No buddy. Why?”
Aiden: “Well I was thinking that maybe you should get your very own Xbox for Christmas.”
Me: (thinking to myself) I already own an Xbox??? In fact, it is my second one to replace my original one so that I could get an HDMI output and bigger hard drive.
Aiden: “That way you will have your own Xbox, and Paige and I will have one.”
There ya go!!! While it appears he is thinking of me, he is in fact thinking of ways to get more Xbox time. Yeah, that’s my boy. So thoughtful of others, especially when it benefits him!

It should also be noted that Paige got up and went to the bathroom around 2130 last night.  She was kind enough to stand at the top of the stairs and yell down to me, “Daddyyyyyy….I got all the pee pees in the pottttty.”

9-13-09

Yesterday was the kickoff to our Fall 2009 soccer season.  Paige’s game was first at 1030 with Aiden’s following at Noon.  Now keep in mind that Kim worked the night before and was getting up after just a couple hours to attend the games.  They were too close together for us to be able to drop Kim back at home and then make it back for Aiden’s game.  Ok, really, it was partially because parking is usually a joke around there.  We had a parking spot and we wanted to keep it.

Paige’s game looked like it was going to be ok.  She was running, kicking, and doing fine during warm-ups.  Then all hell broke loose.  First problem was she wanted to use her ball for the game, and they had another one.  Meltdown #1.  The second meltdown occurred late in the first quarter after she finally stopped crying about it not being her ball.  She went into the game, but immediately melted down because she couldn’t get the ball.  Actually, this was the same reason for meltdowns 2-6.  Ok, I don’t know how many she had, but she was PISSED.  We are going to work on that this week I hope.  On a positive note, Paige, being the Princess that she is usually gets her way.  Her team was the Dinosaurs, but this was not to Paige’s liking.  Somehow they are now going by the Ponies.  Apparently she petitioned for a name change sometime during the team name yell before the game.  This was prior to meltdowns so I know it wasn’t a pity thing.  One of the sweetest things I witnessed was Aiden watching from the sidelines giving Paige tips while she was out of the game.  He is such a good big brother.

Aiden’s first game back was very entertaining….at least for the parents of the “Cobra’s”.  That’d be us.  The field is bigger, there are 4 players from each team on the field this time, but still no goalie.  Each team has 8 players and I think they are finally up to one hour games.  I know I’m slightly biased, but Aiden’s team plays well together, and there are some pretty good kids on the team.  Yes, I’m biased, but just take game number one into consideration.  Game starts, less than one minute later….GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL.  After two more quick goals the referees decide the game isn’t quite fair.  Yes, we scored quickly, yes we’ve scored three times before the halfway point of the first quarter, ok, maybe this isn’t fair.  The on field ref goes and talks to both coaches.  Then we get back under way….four versus five.  Apparently, if the game isn’t appearing to be quite fair they stack it a bit.  Long story short….most of the game gets played 4 on 5….and the Cobra’s won like 10-3.  I think the other team scored all three of their goals in a 4 minute span when all of their biggest players were on the field.  Like I said, it was entertaining for us.  Aiden was running, but not at full tilt.  It was warm out, about 82 degrees, and the kids were tired.  First game of the season and Aiden needs to keep running…he was holding his side while running for a little while.  The thing that amazed me was how much Aiden has changed in the last year.  First couple games last year he was VERY passive….at one point in the game yesterday I saw him jump into the middle of three of the other team’s players to get the ball.  He got it out and moved down field a bit before it got kicked out of bounds.  It is very surprising to see how aggressive he has become.

We did feel a little bad because one of Aiden’s friends from preschool a couple years ago was on the other team….he scored one of the goals at least.

Another week is almost in the bag.  That means it is almost time for Kim to go back to work.  We don’t like weekends here…that’s when Mama works.

Aiden and Paige both have soccer games this Saturday.  Paige’s is at 1030 and Aiden’s is at Noon.  This should be interesting with Finn in attendance and Kim attempting to attend both games.  Oh yeah, Kim works Friday and Saturday this week.  She can’t miss Paige’s first soccer game so she’s going to zombie it.

Finn had his 6 month checkup today.  Got weighed, measured, looked over, and received a few shots as a parting gift.  Personally, I’d ask for a refund.  He’s breaking the mold with our kids….he was in the 55th percentile for head circumference.  Ok, that’s not unusual.  In fact, if anything it is a little lower than I expected.  But the bell-curve-wrecking stat is his height.  65th percentile.  The other two tend to hover MUCH lower.  Apparently Finn is going to be the big one of the three.  Helpful, I guess, when you’re the baby of the family.

Aiden had soccer practice tonight, and Kim and Paige attended with him.  I stayed home with Finn since I’m fighting a bitchin summer cold.  When they walked in afterwards I was surprised by how red they both were.  I kind of expected Nutty to be worn out, but Monkey was almost as red in the cheeks!  Thank goodness it wasn’t still 90+ out there or they may have cooked!

As I mentioned, I’ve got a summer cold.  Kim has it now too, and I think we can thank public school for it.  Aiden was sounding like he was going to lose his voice the other day, but then was fine a couple days later (cough medicine once).  Meanwhile, Kim and I will probably be down for a week plus.  Perhaps I should quit smoking….maybe colds wouldn’t linger quite as long.

So yesterday, Kim had an interesting conversation with Aiden about what he did in school.  It is not so easy getting that boy to tell us what he did.  I asked him on the way home from school and he told me they had P.E.  Then I asked what they did in P.E. and he informed me that he’d tell me when we got home.

So, Kim stepped in after finding out they had P.E.  It went like this…..

Kim: So what did you do in P.E.?  Did you play with balls, jump rope, run, what kind of stuff?

Aiden: Normal stuff, but just a little different.

Kim (laughing under her breath): Well, how was it different?

Aiden: You know (here he paused for a few seconds) that’s a really good question.

At this point Kim and I were both busting up laughing.  He was so not going to answer us.  Thankfully, we get the things he did in class in his backpack every day.  He is learning Spanish words, and really, all we care is that he is learning things.  Spanish or English.
