I was just cruising through my blog and saw the original and first follow up on “What the fuck happened”. Last I was debating about running a dual boot on Kim’s laptop with XP Pro and Linux. Well, she got off easy since our desktop took a shit on us.
Once it was moved back downstairs (where it was to start with) it was having issues with updating software, installing software and printing in general. Long story short…it is now running Ubuntu Linux. It will be the only computer I ever have that runs Linux.
Yes, it is clean and easy to use…but updating software and installing new software is way too big a pain in the ass. I am a M$ kid apparently. To all those that say M$ is just out to make a buck..blah blah blah…
*ahem* WELL DUH? It is a company whose purpose is to be profitable. Don’t like it? Then plop your ass down in a seat and write millions of lines of code to create the one Operating System (OS) that is used by 75% of the world’s computers. Oh, and don’t forget to correct all the things you say is wrong with Windows. Sure you can hire people to do a lot of it for you, but don’t forget you have to pay: them, the electrical bills, for the computers the code is written on, the building where everyone works, etc. etc. etc.
Now that you have paid all this money for this wonderful OS you can’t charge for it or you’ll be just as bad as Bill Gates…who has donated more to various research foundations (like AIDS research) and schools than everyone on your friends list combined will make in their lifetime.
So, quit knocking M$ and deal with it. Funny story (at least I think so)….a hacker was convicted of uploading Star Wars Episode III to the internet a few hours before it was released in theaters. He did 5 months in prision and has to have monitoring software (spyware) installed on his computer for 5 months. He is not in any way objecting either sentance, but is objecting to the fact that the software the government has won’t work on Linux (which he uses exclusively) and he is upset that the government is ‘requiring’ him to purchase a copy of Windows. Well, they aren’t. His other option is to not be on a computer that has the ability to connect to the internet. So make your choice….Windows or having to pay for your porn.
